Resources

Resources are a general term used to describe the how a Character can exert themselves beyond their usual state. This could be how much they may push their bodies to perform physical activities, it may be to conjure magical effects, or it might be to draw on their own force of will.

There are Six Resources in the game. These include Stamina, Mana, Drive, Favor, Momentum and Tension.

Stamina: Used to exceed physical limits.

Mana: Used to harness magic.

Drive: Used to harness a Character’s force of will or motivation.

Favour: Used to call upon the Favour of other powerful forces or Characters.

Momentum and Tension: Represents when the Player Characters or the forces which oppose them, are due a swing in their fortunes.

Resources are expended to help Characters achieve great things, but Resources are by their definition limited.

These limits represented by “Points“. When a Character use Feature requiring a Resource they will expend one or more of these Points.

A Character cannot have less than Zero Points of a given Resource, and they cannot use a Feature which would reduce a Resource below Zero.

Momentum and Tension is a flexible resource which a Player can be expended instead of a Character’s Stamina, Mana, Drive or Favour.

You may find a Character has a feature which requires they expend a Resource, but they do not yet have that Resource. This is intentional: those Characters can at that point only use those features by expending Momentum.

As the Character Progresses they may gain Points of that Resource and be able to use those Features more often and without expending Momentum.

A Character will have a limit to how much of a Resource they may have at any given time.

All Characters begin with a Limit of 0 for their Stamina, Mana, Drive and Favor Resources. Characters may increase this limit by gaining certain Features.

They also may have no more than 3 Momentum.

As a Character progresses, they may gain features which increase the Limit of a Resource.

Players begin all Stories with 1 Momentum, and 0 of each of the other four Resources.

GMs begin with No Tension.

When a Player has expended all the Points of a Resources, they will need to regain Points of that Resource before it may be used again.

Stamina, Mana, Drive and Favor are all regained when a Rest occurs.

Some Features (including certain items) may grant Characters other means to regain Resources.
