What is Freedom Fantasies?
Freedom Fantasies is an Open-Source Tabletop Roleplaying Game designed and written by Peter Rees.
Players are empowered to tell Fantastical Stories in a wide range of settings and genres using this game.
There are minimal barriers to entry: the rules are provided for free through this website and are designed to be easy to use by Players.
Why Play Freedom Fantasies?
Freedom Fantasies simplifies and builds upon the mechanics of Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition and incorporate elements from many other systems to provide a more narrative driven game.
It provides an experience better tailored to what Players of d20 fantasy games are looking for: a simple, intuitive system which is able to balance the varying needs for narrative and simulation driven mechanics of different settings and genres.
It also provides Players a way to “Escape the Dungeon” that is the Dungeons & Dragons ecosystem and begin exploring other fantastic roleplaying games with a system which is familiar and accessible.
Why is it Free? What’s the Catch?
Freedom Fantasies was conceived of following the realization that the Tabletop Roleplaying hobby has been largely monopolized by a single game (Dungeons and Dragons).
The numerous actions of the company in possession of that game’s IP in 2023 made the dangers of that status quo abundantly clear.
Freedom Fantasies was made with the belief that Roleplaying Games is an aural tradition common throughout the world, and should be made available to everyone.
For Free.
There is no catch.

The Designer: Peter Rees
Peter is an inventor with a doctorate in Laser Physics and a love of game design and storytelling.
He lives with his wife and son in the original lands of Arthurian myths and legends: Wales. The aural tradition of storytelling in Welsh history inspires Peter’s philosophy behind Freedom Fantasies, seeing it as a tradition much, much older than it’s modern iterations would lead us to believe.
Peter is no stranger to the many accessibility issues posed by the tabletop roleplay gaming hobby. Cost, complexity of rules and a lack of a local community all posed hurdles to his engagement in the game at a young age. His strong desire to remove any and all barriers to entry to the hobby underpins the design and release of Freedom Fantasies.
Tabletop Roleplaying Gaming is a Storytelling Tradition that should be made available to everyone, and it’s identity should not be defined by a single, corporately owned, entity.
